"Mom, did that happen around the purple time of day?" asks Caroline this morning.
I knew immediately what she meant, though it took me a second to figure it out.
"Yes, Caroline, it happened at twilight. Between day and dark."
"That's it," she said casually.
Sandia means "watermelon" and every afternoon at a certain time of day, the mountains are as pink as the inside of any watermelon. It only lasts for a few moments and the following sunset is breath taking. It is very likely that the world looks purple during that time, though I have never noticed.
I love to see the world through the eyes of a child. I will forever think of twilight as "the purple time of day."
