Sorting The Trash

The Steeds at Rte 66

Julie, Derick, Kate and Anthony at High Finance

Heading Out To See The Planes With Daddy

"I had rather be sorting the trash than doing this!" yells/whines Mattie from the back of the van. Derick, Caroline, Kate, Anthony & I are waiting on the curb, hoping she will eventually finish her tantrum and emerge. She did and she did.

We had visitors from GA on Friday. Kate & Anthony made a 24-hour appearance in ABQ & Derick and I gave them a whirlwind tour.

First, Derick took us out to the flight line and, using his work voice (which is totally different from his normal voice), he gave us an informative tour of the planes in his Wing.

Friday evening we left the girls with a sitter and headed up the tram (world's longest) and had a yummy meal at High Finance. On the ride to the tram, I sat in the seat usually occupied by Caroline--and sure enough, the sky was purple. Sometimes adults fail to see what is right in front of their faces. We ended the evening with a little Wii action--Raymond's Raving' Rabbids--the best party game ever.

No trip to ABQ would ever be complete without some authentic New Mexican fare, so off to Perea's for some delicious Saturday morning breakfast, followed by a quick trip to Old Town. Apparently, Mattie had not factored this into her plans for the day since this is when the breakdown in the back of the van occurred & she made reference to the trash. As soon as she made it onto the sidewalk, she started having fun. And I am thrilled that we found the book "Albuquerque Turkey." Both girls learned that song in preschool, but I never learned all the words. Extracting the words from either of them is like extracting teeth.

We ended the whirl wind tour with a milkshake at the historic Rte 66 Diner. Kate had the Elvis and Mattie had the Pink Cadillac. The rest of us ordered plain ole' flavors.

I am going to put all of the pictures from the weekend on my web gallery. You can get there from this blog by clicking on "Steed Web Gallery" (posted to your right).

PS--Never, ever have we made Mattie sort through the trash.

  1. I'm so cracking up right now! I have been trying to remember what Mattie said that was so funny, and now I'm especially amused that I read that she's never sorted trash at all. Hilarious! We had so much fun with you guys...can't wait to come back!
