The Best Teammate Ever

If you don't want to read about love, move along. This entry isn't for you.

"Why don't you go take a bath & I'll make us a snack," Derick says last night.

Really? What woman in their right mind would pass this up. I took a nice long soak with a new book and when I was done, I had two kinds of pizza and something else I can't spell to choose from. Delicious. While we snacked on our gourmet snacks, we watched MY favorite shows...all on DVR.

That is what love is all about. Tonight Derick cooked again. A delicious meal that he just pulls out of his sleeve. As he was cooking, I emptied the trash, took out the recycling, put the trash can on the curb & pulled the car and bikes into the garage for the night. Funny, that seems like a role reversal--but really it is just team work.

Attitude Development

Apparently, age 7 is when the attitude begins to develop. Mattie has suddenly turned into a miss smarty-pants. Her favorite word is NO, just like a 2 year old testing the limits. Which is exactly what she is doing--testing us to see how far she can push. That is her best talent.

There was a lot of drama at the playground today when she decided to climb on the outside of the play structure. I reminded her that that was dangerous and that she wasn't allowed to do it (nothing new there). She proceeded to attempt it again--when I gently reminded her that there would be no ice cream afterwards for her if she chose not to listen.

Guess what? No ice cream.

Just as I told Mattie that she wouldn't be getting her treat, Caroline fell.

She hit her chin on the slide (going up it the wrong way...what is the deal?). Her chin was bleeding & she bit her tongue & it was also bleeding.

Luckily my teammate was there. He drug a howling Mattie to the car while I carried a screaming, bleeding Caroline. Quite an impressive exit indeed.

Caroline has a nice gash on her chin and she has a very tender tongue, but it appears that everything will heal just fine.

One more reason to gush about my husband...

We broke the news to the girls tonight that they will probably share a bedroom in Kansas. We are leaning heavily towards living on base & that will mean, once again, a smaller-than-we-want home. Derick & I are likely going to give up a big house in the country so that the girls will have the instant support system of the other kids on base. Therefore, we will take the 3rd bedroom as office space. Derick announced that he is giving me his nice, big desk when it comes out of storage so that I will have more space for my writing.

That, too, is love.

  1. what a good guy you've got. I remember thinking that when he did that whole tea party thing for a Mattie a few years back. What a softy he really is. Maybe he can teach your brother to cook?
