Slick Spot!

Cebu LOVES snow. He ran and played like a puppy! This is our backyard.

We woke to snow and it accumulated quickly. Sadly, it melted just as fast! So we decided to go looking for snow and headed up to Sandia in hopes of lunch and a little sledding. Things couldn't have turned out much differently!

Snow covered the road that had yet to be plowed. Lots of vehicles were out, including some cars. We made it easily to the peak and were pretty disappointed when it was closed. By now, the car themometer registered 11 degrees. We stayed at the top long enough to confirm the restaurant was closed, use the port-a-potty (brrr) and let Caroline throw up. Yes, she seems to have inherited a tendency to get car sick. The sled area was closed, so we kept going back towards home and a restaurant we had seen along the way.

Suddenly, we hit a sheet of ice, spun around a few times in the road and slid into another car. Whew! It was scary, but I didn't see it all because I had my eyes closed. The Hansen bumper paid for itself...there is no damage to the jeep what-so-ever. The other car wasn't so lucky and we will be purchasing a new bumper for someone this Christmas. Everyone is fine. We were going very slow & the other car was stopped, so there were no injuries. This is the only accident (other than the hit and run, again involving the jeep bumper) that we have experienced since we got married over 10 years ago. We figure we will take this one if we can go another 10 years!

After dealing with a nice state trooper and the nice lady we hit, we headed towards the restaurant we had seen in town. It is now around 2:30...way past our lunch time. Our girls are being very good, despite low blood sugar. But alas, the restaurant was closed. We had to go home and make our own lunch! :(

So, we went out seeking adventure and we found it.

P.S. Snow is in the forecast every single day this week. I can't help but be excited. I am so obviously a Southerner.

Mattie: Currently, Mattie is playing "Mattie World" in the playroom. Posted on the door are a list of rules for admittance. They are: a hat, a purse (a wallet for men) and a self-made passport. Luckily we were all admitted.

  1. So glad everyone is ok, but with that out of the way--would've loved to have been a fly on the "wall" to hear Mattie's comments immediately following the fender bender. ;)
