Snowshoe Fun

It is winter sports week here in sunny ABQ. Rather ironic since it is reaching the low 70's each day and all snow that was on the mountain is melting quickly.

We went snowshoeing anyway. Mom, Dad and I deposited both of the girls at their respective schools, sent Derick off to earn money, and headed up Sandia in search of snow. I have to admit, I was skeptical. I was just there on Sunday and it didn't look promising. HOWEVER, we saw enough snow to get excited as we drove towards Sandia Peak.

First things first--we ate lunch looking out over the lovely view of ABQ. No bird watchers hogging the tables on a Tuesday, so the view was unobstructed. I do love the beef taquitos there--though I am pretty sure they are straight from the freezer to the fryer. The guac. served with them certainaly helps tremendously.

I digress.

We went back down the mountain to a trailhead and got all strapped into our snowshoes. We were the only people in the area and we really enjoyed the walk. Sure, there was some mud involved. But mainly it was just snow (or snice as I like to call it when the snow begins to get crunchy and icy).

It was very relaxing and rather nice to have some time with my parents without the demands of motherhood or a house that is in constant need of cleaning, straightening and decluttering.

Even Caroline was in a good mood when we retrieved her at 2.

After Mattie made it home, we played outside for a bit before supper. Then the girls enjoyed a viewing of Kung Fu Panda with Grammy and Grampy before they head home tomorrow.

A wonderful day...
