Slug Fest

Update: Score! I caught 5 slugs despite the torrential downpour that woke me from my sleep.

When your best friend is out of town (that would be Derick), it's important to find ways to entertain yourself (besides premiere week and Scrabble on the I-Phone). The girls are good until about 8:00 or so, but then they're in bed and I'm on my own. So here's my attempt at entertaining myself.

Something has been eating up the leaves of my brand new broccoli plants. Same thing happened with Derick's small pepper plants. I was convinced it was slugs and we set us up a little slug trap, but we didn't catch anything, so we gave up.

Well tonight I caught those slimly, nasty guys at work. Ewwwwww. It is war, people. (Here's the entertaining part).

I donned Derick's shoes and my head lamp, gathered up all of the small plastic containers I could find, my spade and a full Shock Top and headed to the garden. No slimy slug is going to get the best of me. Do you think the neighbors saw me? Are the cops on the way as we speak?

Anyway, I set a slug trap at the base of every single broccoli plant (and hacked a few slugs with my spade alone the way). I used up the better part of a beer in the process and even threw a hacked slug in one of the traps to make myself feel better.

What do you think? I think it was funnier in person. I sure hope I have some floating slugs in the morning. Do I have to reset the traps every night? Because there are some big spiders out at night. And also one nasty centipede. I am wearing boots next time. And I need to get some cheap beer.

I bet you all hope Derick gets home soon so that you don't have to help me entertain myself anymore.
