April Stuff

Random Event of the Month--

We were on post heading to the spot where our camper is stored when suddenly, we were surrounded by a HERD of SHEEP. On a US MILITARY INSTALLATION. I thought for a moment we must be in a foreign country. We had to stop the car and wait as they went all around us. The dogs went nuts and the sheep were smelly.

I was so shocked that I didn't think to grab my camera until the herd had almost gotten past us.

This past weekend, we went to the zoo in Topeka. This trip was a cookie-selling reward for Mattie's Girl Scout Troop. While Mattie went with her troop for a behind-the-scenes tour, Derick, Caroline and I enjoyed the zoo.

Here we are in the "Quiet Garden." The tulips were beautiful.

After the zoo, we stayed and explored Gage Park. We had a picnic lunch with the Girl Scouts and then our family stayed and took a train ride around the park and rode on the carousel.

Afterwards, we headed back to our campsite at Perry State Park (just us, not the Girl Scouts). We took a short hike through the woods and came back covered in tics. NOT FUN. We had to strip off our clothes and tie them in a plastic bag.

Other things that went wrong:
-red wine spilled all over me
-our spaghetti sauce was bad and we had to eat supper at a restaurant at a golf course dressed in our camping attire
-raccoons raided our campsite 4 times after we went to bed. That's OK, I was awake. Busy scratching at imaginary tics.
-Mattie and Caroline slept in the same bed. At one point, Caroline's feet were in Mattie's face. That had to be corrected.
-The breakfast biscuits were burned.
-Our campsite didn't have a fire ring. Didn't realize it until we had set up camp.

Hmmm. I am sure there is more, but I'll stop there. I was incredibly glad to get home. I slept like a rock last night--no raccoons, ya know.
