Meet your teacher day at Lansing Elementary was very, very anti-climatic after the meet your teacher event thrown at SY Jackson (Mattie's school in ABQ). No train, no bouncy house, no food today. Instead, we went to find the room, dropped off supplies, chatted with the teacher a bit and left.
Lansing is much larger than SYJ. However, the counselor (this is her 40th year) met us in the hallway and told us which teacher Mattie would have. She got down on one knee and spoke directly to Mattie and told Mattie that she remembered her because she had gotten her info from SYJ. She even remembered that her gifted testing is only half-complete (perhaps she remembers us because that involves extra work!?)
Mattie's teacher (I cannot remember her name...odd spelling) is about my age and had a very dry sense of humor. She told Mattie that they would have a lot of fun in her class, but that on the days she (the teacher) felt goofy she would close the door before being silly. However, she seemed that she would have enough control to keep M in line. I think it will be a much better match than last year.
The first child Mattie met here and connected with, Gabrielle, is the daughter of a guy in Derick's class. Gabrielle is in Mattie's class--this could be good or bad for the teacher, but M was thrilled to know someone already.
