Omaha Zoo

We visited the zoo in Omaha, Nebraska over the weekend. It is a 3 hour drive, so we drove up Saturday afternoon and spent the night. We visited Ouffit AFB and also had supper with some friends who live in the area. Then we headed to the zoo on Sunday before driving home Sunday afternoon.

We added Nebraska and Iowa to our list of states visited. We crossed a toll bridge into Nebraska from Iowa. The bridge was one step above a one-lane bridge and was pretty scary. HOWEVER, the tool booth on the Nebraska side was unbelievable. This very weathered man with a trucker cap and cigarette greeted us at the "toll booth" (a hut with a door). $1.25 to risk our lives on a bridge that needs replacing and a greeter that was straight out of Deliverance. I would give ANYTHING if I had snapped a picture of the whole situation. Unbelievable.

Zoo pics...

I have never been those close to a giraffe before. They are BIG. Look at the size of his knee cap.

Cute! And so are the penguins. The penguins were hilarious. Someone was opening a door and pushing them outside. They were trying to get back inside! We enjoyed watching them.

Just having fun and taking advantage of having someone along to photograph all of us! (Grandaddy and 'Nita braved the trip with us).

Luckily we snapped a few family photos first thing. We were wiped out by the end of the day. Notice the paper in Mattie's hand? A numbered list of animals to find at the zoo. We found most of them.
